During the 1950s, National Geographic would manufacture flags for their sponsored explorers to bring upon their journeys all over the world. These flags were not made available to the public, and are now scattered around the world - in random houses, museums, buried in storage units, and at the peak of Mount Everest.
At one time, the gold standard of photo journalism - National Geographic has deeply inspired us, as well as many of our peers throughout the decades. We wanted to bring back the flag and update the color palette to mirror the rich coloring of the kodachromes that were indicative of the photography featured in the magazine up until the 1990s.
This is a striped nylon flag with zig-zag stitched self appliqué. The colors symbolize the earth, sea, and the sky. It will release on Friday at 11AM PST. One was made. worldsfairsupply.com
Photo journalism is one of the most important artistic mediums because it consistently showcases real life. As of 2024, National Geographic is no longer sold on news stands. For a long time, NatGeo showcased the beauty in all the turmoil in our world today.
